1) REDUCE CLEANUP
Give spilled soil an escape
hatch. With a jigsaw, cut a hole slightly smaller
than a grill grate. Mount the grate underneath.
Position a bucket or tub below the hole.
2) REFINE THE LOOK
Stain the potting bench—
black gives this one instant sophistication—and
make a skirt out of burlap. (We ironed on stripes
with fusible tape.) Mount a rod on the front
edge of the bench; hang burlap with clip rings.
